Who is eligible?
That is a difficult question to answer.
We welcome applications from all corners of the performing arts world. This includes emerging theatre artists such as actors, directors, choreographers, dancers, creative producers and playwrights.
You may be more experienced professional at an interesting point of transition in your career or looking for a creative shot in the arm.
We hope the group of 18 people will be a good mix of people with different talents, background and experience.
The programme is 100% full time and requires a significant commitment. You must agree to be present (both mentally and physically) for the entire course. You must be prepared to try different things outside your comfort zone and area of specialty.
How can I apply?
Application is now closed.
Send the form, along with a standard CV, by email or post to The Next Stage c/o Theatre Forum, 67 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1 or email theatreforum(at)ireland.com.
The closing date for application is Friday 22 August 2008.
A selection panel including Loughlin Deegan, Artistic Director of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival, Fiach Mac Conghail, Director of the Abbey Theatre, Chrissie Poulter, Lecturer in Drama Studies in Trinity College, Christine Madden, Literary Reader for the Abbey Theatre, and Tania Banotti, Chief Executive of Theatre Forum will assess applications.
Successful candidates will be notified the week of 1-5 September. Full payment for the programme must be received by Monday 15 September.
If you are planning to apply for the programme, we would ask you not to buy tickets for the Festival shows included in The Next Stage in advance of notification of your place. If you are successful then the tickets will be included as part of The Next Stage programme. It will not be possible to refund you for tickets already purchased, or to swap tickets around for different evenings. The programme has been carefully organised in such a way that you will see shows on a particular evening in order to catch the post show discussion or to ensure you have seen the work in advance of meeting the makers.
Dublin Fringe Festival Wild Card
The Dublin Fringe Festival has kindly agreed to sponsor a place on The Next Stage for one lucky person whose work has really impressed the Director and Programme Manager. Last year, visual artist Will St. Leger was nominated for the programme.
All work programmed as part of the Fringe Festival will automatically be considered, and there is no need to apply for this award. The winner will be announced at the Fringe Festival Awards on September 21st.
