NIFF events and promotion is an initiative of Reginald Inya -- an intercultural project for social inclusion and integration through arts, festivals and films in Ireland. NIFF and NANI also works towards effect positive change in migration-related policy, advocacy and empowerment of ethnic minorities especially Nigerians in Ireland. We initiated this noble film festival for African and Nigerians films to be explored for social interaction and immigrant integration initiative which involves immigrants engaging with Irish film industry and promoting understanding.
The NIFF and NANI has amongst others the following core aims:
- The promotion of social inclusion and integration, and understanding of diversity among the wider Irish society through films, intercultural lifestyles and exploring careers in the industry,
- To networks and linkages to relevant stakeholders to broaden the personal and professional experience of immigrant artists and external contributors; and the variety of immediate benefits entailed in this such as an increased and unique knowledge of ethnic films, connection with and insight into the industry in Ireland
- To build a stronger connection, understanding and sense of relevance of arts and films towards integration and social inclusion for the Irish Society as well as among all people and especially communities of immigrant background.
- To innovatively break down barriers and build an inclusive society – through personal informed education of ethnic lifestyles and values by films and festivals
Role description:
To work with the NIFF Director and Producer in the following areas:
- To seek funds, sponsorship and promotion of the NIFF brand in Ireland
- Liaising with artists here in Ireland and Abroad as we deliver the festival year by year
- Monitoring and recording the progress of the NIFF events and strategies of delivery
- Writing evaluations, reports to relevant stakeholders (funders, sponsors, volunteers etc)
- Assisting with other works deemed necessary for the NIFF aims
- Keeping up-to-date with active players and key stakeholders
- Keeping up to date with relevant events in the area of film festivals in Ireland and abroad
- Attendance at meetings, seminars and conferences relevant to our work
- Working as part of a team, engaging in team meetings, supervision, review and planning sessions as relevant
Hours: 2 days per week. The internship is for a six month period. Starting March 2012.
Location: The internship is at our office at 10 Cornmarket, Dublin 8
Support and Supervision: There will be ongoing support and structured weekly/monthly support and feedback meetings.
Costs: subsistence expenses will be reimbursed (to a maximum of €10 per day) once completed expenses sheet and receipts have been submitted to the NIFF.
Skills and Experience of the Intern:
Essential
- Fluent in English, and any other relevant languages
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment and on own initiative
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT packages
- Knowledge of films, festivals and supports for community/intercultural events
Desirable
- Relevant academic qualification
- Previous experience of working in an NGO particularly in the area of immigration, film festivals and intercultural arena in Ireland
