Mariano Pensotti was born in Buenos Aires in 1973. He started out in cinema, directing his first feature El Camino del medío in 1994 and Sonar Lobos y Jirafas in 1996. Most recently he wrote and directed La Marea a site specific theatre piece. It premièred at the Festival Internacional of Buenos Aires in 2005 and the Kunsten Festival des Arts Brussels in 2006.

Other works include Los Muertos which premiered at the Hebbel Theatre in Berlin in 2005. In some of his mise-en-scene he has explored the expressive use of video as a narrative element juxtaposed with live acting, and documentary elements alongside fictional constructions. He is currently a Director of Dramatic Arts at the Instituto Universitario Nacional de Artes in Buenos Aires.

His production of La Marea is part of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival.
