Árpád Schilling was born in Hungary in 1974. After his first experiences as an actor he founded Krétakör Theatre – which means chalk circle – in 1995. In its first five years the theatre worked without a troupe and without a permanent rehearsal and performing place. The 2000/01 season was the first one with 14 contracted members, most of them in their twenties. Among the pieces he has directed are Lorca’s Blood Wedding, Teatro Godot, Towerwell, Circus Viciosus, Brecht’s Baal and Liliom, gaining him acclaim and critical eminence in Hungarian theatre.

His work was invited to the Avignon Festival 2001 and MC 93 Bobigny. In 2001, W-Workers Circus, based on Büchner’s Woyzeck, prčmiered, followed in 2002 by Leonce and Lena. The Büchner trilogy was completed with Home, My Sweet Homeland (Danton) in October 2002. His productions of BLACKland and The Seagull are being performed at the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival.
