MOVEMENT CLASSES FOR ACTORS AT THE ABBEY
A four week block of classes for professional actors with Movement Director Sue Mythen. Tuesday evenings 7 – 9 pm Team rehearsal rooms Starting May 20 th
This workshop will explore the principles of Rudolph Laban’s Efforts of Action Drive. Over the course of four sessions professional actors will develop a physical understanding of the fundamentals of movement in terms of time, weight and space. They will learn to embody precise qualities of movement and develop an application of Laban’s language specifically to the craft of acting. This work will deepen the understanding of what movement is, and will provide the tools for the actor to observe, develop character physicality, and express with precise articulation the range of thoughts and feelings within a scene.
Sue Mythen Sue worked as an actor for over ten years. Since completing an MA in Movement Studies at the Central School of Speech & Drama she now works as a fre elance Director & Movement Director for film, theatre and television. Most recently she was Movement Director for Jumping on my Shadow for TEAM and Dead Man Walking for Opera Ireland (nominated for Best Opera Production in Irish Times Theatre Awards). Last year she directed Coraline for Puca Puppets at Project & Helix theatres. She was Movement Director for Elektra for Canadian Opera Company, Toronto (winner of three Dora Mavor Awards including Beat Opera Production) and she choreographed the ballroom scenes for Northanger Abbey as part of the Jane Austen Season for ITV Drama. Other directing credits include; Miss Julie and Lost Letters of a Victorian Lady. Credits for Movement Direction include Devotion and Last Call, How High is Up? in Ireland and A Devilish Exercise and Chelsea Valentine in the UK. Sue teaches in a number of drama schools in London and Dublin and is currently co-writing a book on the subject of movement training for actors.
