JOB TITLE: Sound Technician

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Lighting & Sound

The Abbey Theatre is Ireland’s national theatre and occupies a unique position in the hearts and minds of Irish people. It comprises of two theatres: the Abbey, with a seating capacity of 492 seats, and the Peacock, with a seating capacity of 157 seats. The Abbey is committed to producing a year round programme of work both on and off stage, with the priority to create work of excellence, which not only showcases Irish and international drama but also engages with the artistic and civic life of contemporary Ireland.

Duties:

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Lighting & Sound. Duties will include the rigging and de-rigging of sound equipment for productions, maintenance of sound equipment including communications and Tannoy systems, operation of playback for Abbey and Peacock productions both in house and touring if required, assist in the day to day running and housekeeping of the sound department, provide support for rehearsal process, reinforce and record public events outside of the stage production responsibilities, and predominantly work with sound designers/ composers to realise the design requirements for in house productions.

The successful candidate may also be required to assist in lighting duties as assigned by the Head of Lighting & Sound.

Skills / Experience:

Minimum of two years experience as Sound Technician in a theatre environment.

Some live sound experience.

A practical understanding of electrics / electronics.

Radio mic transmitter and receiver systems

Good computer/ IT skills.

Maintenance and troubleshooting skills.

Dsiplay an ability to demonstrate initiative and adaptability.

Excellent communication and team skills.

Ability to work at height.

Lighting experience.

Desirable:

Knowledge / experience of the following:

SFX 5.5b (stage research)

Pro-Tools Le (Digidesign)

Cool Edit (Adobe Audition)

O2r 96, running remote Studio Manager or O2r running remote software

Creamware ‘ Scope home’ audio engine and ‘Layla & Gina soundcards.

Clearcom Freespeak 10 and” partyline” coms systems, Tec pro belt packs.

100v line Tannoy systems.

d&b PA system

Qualifications:

Relevant sound technician qualification

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

•Salary commensurate with skills and experience.
•24 days holidays per annum (including Good Friday & Christmas Eve)
