A Play for Gaza

Seven Jewish Children, a 10 minute play written by the UK-playwright Caryl Churchill as a response to the bombing of Gaza in January 2009 will be performed all over Ireland in the next few weeks.

Churchill wrote the piece in immediate reaction to the situation in Gaza and has stipulated that the play can be read or performed anywhere free-of-charge providing that no admission fee is charged and a collection is taken at each performance for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).

The following companies and individuals are presenting the play, in association with Project Brand New and in support of MAP during the month of March.

Following the preview of “Solemn Mass for a Full Moon in Summer” on the 7th of March, Rough Magic will be presenting a performance of “Seven Jewish Children”, directed by Lynne Parker at Project Arts Centre.

The Abbey Theatre will present Caryl Churchill’s Seven Jewish Children on the 12, 13, and 14 March. The play, directed by Wayne Jordan, will take place in the Peacock after the performance of Ages of the Moon (approximately 9.45pm). Admission is free but booking essential on 01 87 87 222. Meeting is at 2pm sharp at the main entrance to the park (near the Luas stop). The event is free, unticketed and afterward there will be a voluntary collection for Medical Aid for Palestine. The piece will feature the acting talents of Phil Kingston, Faela Stafford, Ian Byrne, Simon Ashe Browne & Megan Riordan. As it is approximately ten minutes long I strongly advise people to arrive a few minutes early. Come and see a powerful piece of new writing from an icon of the theatre, an exciting new director and a highly talented cast, all in aid of a good cause.
